MS. AN MAGLIPAYON USA 2012
An old tradition repurposed for a noble cause
Several years ago in our old hometown of Tacloban, the “An Maglipayon” was an
exclusive society of prominent families who gathered regularly to dine, dance and
share their talents in poetry, music, and song. The highlight of these gatherings was
the coronation of a muse selected as the year’s “Ms. An Maglipayon”.
Here in Southern California, now home to many Taclobanons, the tradition continues
with a twist. The glitz and the revelry lives on, but this time, the altruistic AN
TACLOBANON ASSOCIATION OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA (ATASC) has transformed
this old tradition into a fundraising event. Every two years, the search is on for MS. AN
MAGLIPAYON USA. Proceeds benefit our “kababayans” in Tacloban through a medical-
dental-vision mission outreach project. For a few years now, the ATASC has made
HEALTHCARE available to Taclobanons in Tacloban who have limited or no access to
it.
This year, we are proud to present these young women vying for the title of MS. AN
MAGLIPAYON USA 2012
