Hermano Mayor/Mayores: CHRYSOLITE '79 (DWU Nursing Class of 1979)
Viva Señor Santo Niño!
The An Taclobanon Association of Southern California celebrated its town fiesta in
honor of Señor Santo Niño last June 12, 2010 at historic San Gabriel Mission, San
Gabriel.
Mass was celebrated at the Chapel of Annunciation.
This year’s Hermano & Hermana Mayores were the Chrysolites ‘79
Introducing...
CHRYSOLITE ’79
The Chrysolites is a group of nursing graduates (Class ‘79) from the Divine Word
University, College of Nursing, from Tacloban City, Leyte.
Every nursing class was asked to name their class based on gemstones. We then
came up with CHRYSOLITE, a gem characterized by light-yellowish-green hues (an
olive-green mineral of the olivine group). The clear-green variety (peridot) is used as
a gemstone.
We started in freshman year as 250-some students. With rigorous training and
constant fear of elimination, only 34 of us graduated in the end. As our numbers
diminished over the four years, we all became close to each other like a family. We
went our separate ways after graduation but we made it a point to keep in touch
regardless of where the distance took us. We continued to bond and get together
whenever an opportunity presents itself.
Thus, when we were asked to be the Hermano/Hermanas for the 2010 Los Angeles
fiesta in honor of Senor Santo Nino de Tacloban, it was with great honor that we
accepted the task of sponsoring.
Senor Santo Nino, Bless us, guide us and protect us always……
