An Maglipayon Night
Ms. An Maglipayon '06
Looking back...
Once upon a time, long ago and far away;
Long ago because we are retrospecting circa1924…
Far away because we are referring to our beloved hometown, Tacloban.
It all started with about three or four prominent families getting
together for merienda cena and displaying their creative
talents. They would sing, play a musical instrument such as
piano, violin or guitar; recite poetry or dance with their children.
And so was born a socio-cultural society in the midst of the
community. They called themselves the “An Kakurulpon” –
perhaps because of the time of the day they got together.
The years went by and more and more families joined the
group. Professionals like lawyers, doctors, businessmen, and
government officials became members of this exclusive
society. “An Kakurulpon” then evolved into a bigger, yet select
organization that eventually took the name “An Maglipayon.”
Although it remained a socio-cultural society, the gatherings
became bigger. One of these was a celebration during the
Christmas season where the officers and members selected a
muse.
This was the “An Maglipayon Night.” The spirit of Christmas
was in the air… and it was time to welcome the season with fun
and celebration.
And so, in this happily nostalgic tradition, An Taclobanon of
Southern California revives those happy times!
…a compilation of reminiscences of members enjoying the
twilight of their years
